Secure and Specialist Learning Disability Services Division

The Secure and Specialist Learning disability division within the Trust is responsible for providing specialised mental health and learning disability services, in low, medium and high secure settings for service users with a primary classification of mental illness, and personality disorders.

We are looking for mental health nurses to work in our High Secure Hospital (Ashworth), our Medium Secure Hospital (Rowan View) and our Low Secure Hospital (Rathbone Hospital and the secure wards of Hollins Park). 

Our mental health nurses must be able to demonstrate compassion and empathy to our patients, working to improve the quality of care within a secure/forensic environment. It’s an exciting and rewarding division where you’ll gain invaluable experience in forensic environment.

A recruitment and retention premia is offered to Mental Health & Learning Disability Nurses in the Secure & Specialist Learning Disability Division of up to £4,034.

Secure and Specialist Learning Disability Division

The Secure & Specialist Learning Disability Division is responsible for providing specialised mental health and learning disability services, in low, medium and high secure settings for service users with a primary classification of mental illness, and personality disorders.  Our mental health and learning disability nurses must be able to demonstrate compassion and empathy to our patients, working to improve the quality of care within a secure/forensic environment. It’s an exciting and rewarding division where you’ll gain invaluable experience in forensic environments.

Within the division is Ashworth Hospital, one of only three high secure hopsitals in the country. 

The medium secure unit provides services for people with learning disabilities and mental health problems. Here we provide services that offer people progress through pathways to more independent community living. Our medium secure hospital named Rowan View opened in November 2020, it is a new £53 million purpose built, state of the art hospital. 

Our service users typically have a range of complex needs, require support in high, medium and low secure services, and may have been in contact with the Ministry of Justice. 

Byron ward is an inpatient assessment and treatment facility for adults with learning disability and or autism who require specialist support. The aim is to understand functions of behaviours and access mental health which may not be able to be carried out within the community setting. Here, the team’s vision is to support service users through assessment, engagement and activity to achieve a timely discharge into the community.
